Ahmed Anis, the CEO of The Egyptian Satellite Company Nilesat, announced the start of preparations to launch the company’s satellite (Nilesat 301) to replace Nilesat 201, whose lifetime ends in 2028.

Anis said in press statements that the current date of the seventh or eighth of June was set as the date for launching the satellite from Florida in the United States of America after the end of all testing and operation operations that followed the transfer of the Egyptian satellite from the headquarters of Thales Company in France, where it was manufactured to the launch base "Cape Canaveral" in Florida, USA. The launch process will be undertaken by SpaceX International.

Anis indicated that the process of manufacturing the satellite took about two and a half years, and it was scheduled to be launched at the beginning of the year, had it not been for the circumstances of COVID-19. And about the technical capabilities of the new satellite, Anis said that NileSat 301 has a lifetime of 15 years and weighs 4.1 tons, and will include 38 transponders compared to 26 transponders In the current satellite Nilesat 201.

He added that the new satellite would expand the coverage. In addition to the areas covered by the current satellite, southern African and Nile River basin countries will be covered in order to achieve greater communication with the peoples of the African continent and keep pace with the directions of the political leadership in deepening Egyptian African relations.

The capabilities of the new satellite also include providing broadband Internet services to cover the Arab Republic of Egypt and remote areas to provide Internet services for new projects, infrastructure projects, new urban communities, and oil fields in the eastern Mediterranean, especially the Zohr field.

The CEO of Nilesat indicated that providing this service achieves integration with the Egyptian satellite (Tiba 1), which was launched at the end of last November. Thus, Egypt will be able to provide satellite Internet service through two satellites to ensure the security and continuity of this service.

And regarding the interference operations that satellites are exposed to from time to time, Ahmed Anis said that Nilesat 301 was manufactured according to advanced technology that enables it alone and automatically to identify any source of interference. It will also be able to handle the jamming operations to provide full insurance for the television channels operating on it. The new satellite is also characterized by the ability to maneuver the antennas to change coverage areas according to the needs of African countries, which are a new market for Nilesat satellites.

Anis also indicated that intensive negotiations were conducted to expand and deepen strategic partnerships with major entities operating in the field of broadcasting satellite channels with our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, and Jordan, and in particular with the United Media Services Company, OSN, SES, and Gulfsat Kuwait.
